New Year, New You

Today we celebrate New Years Eve! On this day, we tend to reflect on the year before, and set new personal goals for the upcoming year. It felt like a good day to share how my life has changed in 2019.

So let’s rewind to the end of December 2018. At the time I was working for another foundation repair company. To say I was very unhappy there would be a huge understatement. I had been put into a new position with the company against my will, with an endless pressure to perform at a grueling pace. Normally I do my best work under pressure….but with feeling so unappreciated…that wasn’t the case here. The micromanagement, negativity, and constant criticism was getting to me. I knew that I didn’t want to spend 2019 working at that foundation repair company, and I had to find a way out!

At that same time, I started following Dalinghaus Construction online. I loved how informative the videos were! I was learning more from the Dalinghaus videos than I had in over a year at this other company! I loved that they really seemed to care about educating customers, not so much the hard sell. I quickly realized I was playing for the WRONG team. I turned to LinkedIn, and reached out to Brian Dalinghaus, to see if they may be open to having me join their team. The day after Christmas 2019, he let me know they were growing, and would have some positions available in the very near future. He said to give him a few weeks, and we would be in touch.

Longest Few Weeks Of My Life

Probably, no definitely, the longest few weeks of my life. I was trying to patiently wait for a phone call or email, but I was getting stir crazy. Things were worse than ever at work, and I was ready to walk out on pretty much a daily basis. I even had permission from my husband to leave if I couldn’t take it anymore. In the meantime, I applied at other companies, and was actually hired at a dental office in Temecula. Luckily, they didn’t need me to start for a month, and I was trying to hold out just a little longer. I really felt Dalinghaus would be my home in the very near future.

I finally heard from Brian in mid-January!🎉 He said they were getting closer to needing to hire, and set up an interview for me to come on February 1st to meet with him, his brother Brad, and Holly, the Office Manager. I was excited to hear what they were hiring for, and excited for the possibility of leaving my dead end job!

February 1st came, and I showed up to Dalinghaus Construction bright and early for my interview! I hit it off with everybody from the get go! Straight shooters, genuine people, no corporate BS! I was ready to pack my stuff and come over that day! Not so fast...they weren’t quite ready for me. The position they were looking to fill was for a Permits & Engineering Coordinator. Not something I had done before, but I was willing to take any position to get my foot in the door with Dalinghaus. We wrapped up a great first meeting, and Brian said they would be in touch with me soon!

A man of his word, Brian got in touch with me very soon! He said everyone agreed (even Brad 😂) that I would fit in perfectly at Dalinghaus. They said after meeting me, they thought I would be a better fit in Customer Care, with a long term goal to get me into a Marketing position. I agreed that would be more so a position I saw myself in as well! Brian emailed a Job Description and Offer Letter over to me, and I quickly accepted!

Breaking Up Is NOT Hard To Do

I could not pack my stuff quick enough! I spoke with HR at the other company, and given that I was going to a direct competitor, I felt I should step away right away without notice, and they agreed. I was ready to move on to bigger and better things!

My 2019 With Dalinghaus

2019 has been one of the best years of my life. Dalinghaus was not just a new job for me, but a whole new career path. I had felt so stuck in a dead end position before, but Dalinghaus opened up endless possibilities for me. You may not know this, but Brian got his degree in education, and he is a VERY good teacher. He sees what you are capable of, and gives you the tools to succeed. He definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone a bunch of times…but I am now doing things now that I never thought I could do before. He has always believed and encouraged me. I am finally at a company that I know there is no “dead end”. We are always working hard, growing, expanding, and I know I have a bright future here at Dalinghaus.

Wrapping Up 2019

In wrapping up 2019….I am physically, and mentally not the person I was at the beginning of the year. I started the year very depressed, overweight, and very unhealthy. I had spent most of my lunch breaks, and after work, eating and drinking my feelings. When I came to Dalinghaus, the people I found myself directly working for were such positive, healthy people, that it encouraged ME to be the best version of myself. I worked hard on improving myself, both personally and professionally. I am happy to report that I am going into 2020 almost 50lbs lighter, healthier, and happier than I have ever been before. I feel blessed that I was able to spend 2019 here at Dalinghaus, because I really feel like it has made me the best version of myself I have ever been. With such a successful 2019 under my belt, I am very excited to see what 2020 has in store for me!
